Randy has been taking care of golf course greens since 1991. He started as a Night Irrigator for a public 18-hole golf course when he was 16 years old; and has since worked at private country clubs, high-end resorts, golf course construction/grow-in projects, and city courses. After spending 25 years helping build and maintain golf courses, he is very happy about the prospect of doing it for another 25 years. He worked as a Spray Technician and then Assistant Superintendent on nationally televised tournaments at two different clubs: The Oldsmobile Classic and The Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge. The Oldsmobile Classic at Walnut Hills Country Club was a tour event for the LPGA during the 90’s-00’s, and The Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge was a charity event at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada that grouped a member from each pro tour: Men, Ladies, and Senior Professionals. Originally from Michigan, Randy earned a BS in Crop & Soil Sciences from Michigan State University’s College of Natural Science. He began at MSU by obtaining a 2-year certificate in Golf Course Turf Management from their School of Agricultural Technology. Past positions include: Greens Crew Member, Spray Technician, Irrigation Technician, and Assistant Superintendent. These positions were held in Michigan, Montana, Washington, Nevada, and California. Randy took his first Head Superintendent position at a new golf course construction project in California’s Napa Valley in 2011. The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) currently recognizes Randy as a Class A Superintendent in good standings. In addition to his love of the outdoors, he enjoys going to movies, supporting local arts and theater, attending sporting events, and volunteering for his local community. His current goals include working towards GCSAA certification and towards having Baywood achieve Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status.
